Bahá’í Faith – A Path to Unity and Harmony
The Bahá’í Faith is a global religion dedicated to fostering unity, peace, and harmony among all people. Bahá’ís use the term “Manifestation of God” to describe the great spiritual teachers who founded the world’s major religions—figures such as Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad. They believe that God is an unknowable essence, revealed to humanity through these divine messengers. The Life of Bahá’u’lláh: The founder of the Bahá’í Faith, Bahá’u’lláh, was born in 1817 into a noble family in Tehran, Persia (modern-day Iran). At the age of 27, he turned away from wealth and status to serve the Bábí Faith, a newly emerging religion at the time. In 1853, due to his dedication to the teachings of the Báb, Bahá’u’lláh was imprisoned and later banished. During his imprisonment, he experienced a profound vision, revealing to him his divine mission. Ten years later, he publicly declared that he was the Manifestation of God foretold by the Báb. His teachings became the foundation of the Bahá’í Faith, which quickly spread beyond Persia to become a worldwide movement. Core Beliefs and Practices Being a Bahá’í means living according to the spiritual laws and principles set out in Bahá’u’lláh’s writings. These include: Daily prayer and fasting as acts of devotion and spiritual discipline, The sanctity of marriage, emphasizing mutual respect and harmony between partners, Parental consent from all living parents before marriage, reinforcing the value of family unity, Moral living and service to others as essential expressions of faith. Bahá’ís believe that stable marriages and strong families are the foundation of a peaceful and just society. They also affirm the reality of life after death, understanding heaven and hell not as physical places, but as spiritual conditions—states of closeness to, or distance from, God. Social and Global Contributions As the Bahá’í Faith has spread across the globe, its followers have become actively involved in social and economic development projects. These initiatives focus on: Literacy and education, Agriculture and sustainable living, Healthcare access, Empowerment of women and gender equality, Environmental conservation. Bahá’ís believe that spiritual transformation must be accompanied by practical action to improve the world.
